I have a passion for building communities, companies, teams, and individuals by empowering and investing in them by instilling confidence and focusing on their strengths.

Taking a year off from work when I had my first child helped me discover my passion for being a “Builder” by creating a new community within Hayward. I was the first person in my close friend group to be a new mom and had no mommy friends, and I felt depressed, lost, and alone. Things changed for me when I was approached by one of my close friends; today, Jayvelle, then Regional Manager of No Excuse Mom, is a non-profit Maria Kang founded. The overall mission of NEM: “To motivate moms to make their health a priority. Our goal is to create a connection, friendship, and a sense of belonging in a supportive, encouraging, and uplifting environment. We believe that health starts at home and that to raise a healthy child, we must be healthy parents.”

She asked if I wanted to start my group in Hayward. I was a little hesitant and nervous since it’s something I have never done before. One of the main goals as a Group Leader is to host free workouts at local parks. I have always been passionate about fitness and loved being active, but never in a million years would I ever think I could lead a workout class. I took some time to think about it and thought it would be a great way to motivate myself to lose my baby weight and make new friends, so I decided to go for it and launched Hayward NEM in 2014. I’m so glad I took that leap of faith, because making that move helped me discover my purpose and passion which led me to my career in the tech world.
